Abstract
Employee attrition is a major organizational challenge that affects performance, productivity, and sustainability, making effective retention strategies essential in today’s competitive and dynamic work environment. This study uses a qualitative, exploratory research approach based on secondary data to investigate employee attrition and its effects on organizational performance. Through published sources, such as industry reports (e.g., NASSCOM, CMIE), corporate annual reports, government publications, and peer-reviewed journals, data were gathered from multiple organizations in a variety of industries, including IT, manufacturing, and services. To ensure dependability and contextual relevance, only recent (past 5–10 years), relevant, and reliable articles were included in the selection of secondary sources using a purposive sample technique. The study focuses on trends and patterns in employee attrition using comparative percentage analysis and content analysis. All percentage values are backed by recorded information, and key elements (reasons) for attrition—such as a lack of career advancement, insufficient pay, job stress, bad leadership, and better external opportunities are taken from clearly acknowledged sources. The results show that employee attrition significantly lowers productivity, lowers employee morale, and raises recruitment and training expenses, all of which have a detrimental effect on organizational performance. The most common causes of employee turnover across industries are found to be a lack of opportunity for career progression and problems with compensation. According to the study, in order to lower attrition and improve overall performance, companies should concentrate on specific retention measures, such as work-life balance initiatives, competitive pay, career development programs, and effective leadership techniques.
